There have been rumors in The Lion King that when Simba collapses on the cliff after talking with Timon and Pumbaa about stars, the dust that flies off the cliff forms the letters SEX. In fact it forms the letters SFX, the abbreviation of the special-effects team that worked on that portion of the film. This scene was deleted in the 2011 release.
The self-proclaimed “hacktivist,“ group ”Anonymous,” has taken down a new target — and this time the group’s action has gained some warm, or at least positive reaction from the public. Users of the pedophile “Freedom Hosting” server had been hiding within the “dark net” corners of cyberspace. The child-porn sites were allegedly run on scattered volunteer servers, making content monitoring extremely difficult. But then, out of the blue, Anonymous announced that it had successfully accomplished its goal of revealing the account details of 1,589 users of the explicit database, and disabled over 40 child pornography websites. ARS Technica on the news:
“The takedown is part of Anonymous’ Operation Darknet, an anti-child-pornography effort aimed at thwarting child pornographers operating on the Tor network. Anonymous’ attack was focused on a hosting service called Freedom Hosting, which the group claims was the largest host of child pornography on Tor’s anonymized network. ‘By taking down Freedom Hosting, we are eliminating 40+ child pornography websites,’ Anonymous claimed in its statement. ‘Among these is Lolita City, one of the largest child pornography websites to date, containing more than 100GB of child pornography’.”
ZDNet writes that the hacking collective had warned Freedom Hosting to remove all of its disgusting links on October 14. Freedom Hosting ignored and Anonymous attacked, knocking the server offline and out for the count by the evening of the October 15.
And if so, do you have any idea what you’ll be writing or are you (like me) just sort of hoping inspiration will hit on 12:00am Nov 1st?
I’m thinking about doing it but… because November is like the month from Hell, as far as school goes, I’m still not sure… though I have a foggy idea of what I’d like to write about.
I want to, but I have absolutely no idea what I want to write about. So, yeah. I’m hoping something hits me on the head randomly.
This is the first year I’ve had something planned out ahead of time while it still being an original thing. Last year I had an idea, but it was set in the Hunger Games universe, so.
I’ve found that the only way I can write is if I think of An Idea or A Central Theme to focus on. Like last year my thought was “What happens if your first person narrator dies?” This year is “Why the fuck is everything about romance?”
Concerned New York residents are calling for an investigation after a carriage horse knelt down and died in the middle of a busy Manhattan street on Sunday.
En route the Central Park near 54th and 8th Ave, a large white horse used by the NYC carriage industry knelt down and died in the middle of the road. The law enforcement unit of the New York ASPCA is one of the groups calling for an investigation telling the New York Daily News, “The ASPCA has long believed that carriage horses were never meant to live and work in today’s urban setting.” A no brainier for anyone who knows anything about horses but still the industry persists.
Horses in the NYC carriage industry are forced to work nine hours a day in almost every weather condition. They spend their entire lives pounding sensitive hooves on hard pavement while they navigate some of the most reckless and dangerous traffic conditions. At the end of their lives, when they’ve been worked to exhaustion, many are sold to slaughterhouses where they are butchered and sold for meat.
Being carriage horse is no walk in the park. If they don’t die the streets, these gentle and caring horses are worked to the brink of death and slaughtered all in an effort to turn a quick buck for their owner. This poor horse’s death underscores the need for a ban on the industry.
Enough is enough, end the use of carriage horses now.
“A few times during his presidency, Obama admitted, he had written a personal check or made a phone call on the writer’s behalf, believing that it was his only way to ensure a fast result. “It’s not something I should advertise, but it has happened,” he told [Saslow]. Many other times, he had forwarded letters to government agencies or Cabinet secretaries after attaching a standard, handwritten note that read: “Can you please take care of this?”
“Some of these letters you read and you say, ‘Gosh, I really want to help this person, and I may not have the tools to help them right now,’ ” the president said. “And then you start thinking about the fact that for every one person that wrote describing their story, there might be another hundred thousand going through the same thing. So there are times when I’m reading the letters and I feel pained that I can’t do more, faster, to make a difference in their lives.””—
See… Its stuff like this that I REALLY have a hard time believing other presidents would do…and it absolutely drives me insane when people who are democrats, or former Obama supporters that have somehow bought into the thinking that he hasn’t done a good job, or other such nonsense. I mean, fucking hell - how can you not see that not only has this man done so many amazing things for the country, but he is a GENUINELY GOOD GUY. Every president wants to be seen as an “every man” but when I see pictures of Obama smiling & laughing with people, joking around, playing basketball, etc. etc. I just wonder if we will EVER be lucky enough to have such a relatable, genuine person in office again. I really don’t think we will.
Art Director Chris Robinson spoke on this just moments ago at the BlizzCon Open Q&A panel. It was in reply to an attendee who brought up that, in the art panel, it was explained that the pandaren model has 10 times the bone structures of the classic races, allowing for many more facial animations.
To paraphrase his statement — which isn’t too different from what I’ve said here on the forums before — we absolutely plan on updating the existing models. As Chris mentioned, we want to make sure we preserve the look and feel of the original models players have come to know and love, while vastly improving their model and animation quality to be more in-line with the newer races.
We’re not going to hide behind the statement that too many players will get mad if we tamper with their models, but it’s a concern — not a concern that’s going to stop us from doing it, however. I want to stress as well that it’s a massive undertaking to go back and do this. And to a lot of people it’s something that won’t be considered shiny new content. But not only do we hear the masses of players calling for this update, we really feel it’s time to bring them up to par with newer models as well.
The game continues to age, but as we have no plans of slowing down on development any time in the near future, we want to keep updating and polishing it to stand the test of time (again, without sacrificing the look and feel which has brought players in over the years).
“I’ll never forget the first screening. Everyone came to L.A. on their own dime to see a rough cut. I sat with my wife watching the film, and at the end I was crying. My wife said, ‘What’s the matter?’ I said, ‘I never dreamed I would get to be in anything like this.’ Not a day goes by where somebody doesn’t come up and ask, ‘Can you say the line?’ And I say it with the greatest joy in the world. I’ll often whisper it into a little kid’s ear so he’s not looking at my face, so he just hears my voice, because I don’t want to mess up the magic.”—Mandy Patinkin on The Princess Bride and this line (via michelina)
