But every time Chris says that Cap is lonely and all of his friends are basically dead I go like this:
If the movie doesn’t end with him having an entire team full of people who love him I will be legit sad. Because after everything he’s been through and given up, he deserves to have a family, okay? People who love him and respect him and look up to him and he’d better get it, that’s all I’m saying.
And now I’m gonna go read sam’s PTSD fic because I like it when people remember that the whole “waking up in the future” thing is deeply traumatizing and that Cap is exactly the kinda guy who goes around saving the world constantly even though he’s falling apart inside.
Ditto, the way Chris talks about him and how Joss said he was the lone rof the group… it’s true everyone has someone, even Bruce has Betty even if they aren’t together.
it’s interesting how Steve’s man out of time predicament has changed over the comics. In the 60’s which was 20 years after WWII, Steve still had people who knew him and people he knew except they were middle age and most of Steve’s bawws came from the fact that he felt he was outdated and a relic (also his PTSD with Bucky and the war). Then as the time went on the gap just increased until today which is approx 67 years since Steve was frozen in the ice. By this time mostly everyone Steve knew is dead and long gone.
And Peggy at the very least is 87 if she’s still alive.
But Gods I agree, if the Avengers don’t do a group hug with him at the end of the movie or at least give him an indication that he is not alone and they will back him up, I will be upset too.
((Also can I has a link? PTSD fic with Steve seems interesting)).
Alllllll of this. I just want the damn Group Hugs, okay? Okay.
EW: Exclusive new interview with the cast of The Avengers
ROBERT DOWNEY JR.’S IRON MAN
Remember, The Avengers is a team movie — and there’s no “I” in team.
There is, however, an “I” in Iron Man, and since we probably wouldn’t have this movie if it weren’t for the charisma that Robert Downey Jr. brought to the original 2008 movie, it’s fitting that Downey lands at center stage in the new poster.
Here we zoom in for a close-up, but the full poster shows off Tony Stark’s new look, which Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige confirms will be “a gadget-laden” Mark 7 suit.
“I’m still trying to, without moving backwards, remember the character that [Iron Man and Iron Man 2 director] Jon Favreau and I created, and be true to that,” Downey tells EW.
It’s also important to be true to the original Marvel Comics history, but Downey acknowledges that they’ve had to streamline their vision over the years as the possibility of this movie loomed.
“Avengers has always been this kind of hovering [thing]. Is it really possible? I just think that it was an incredibly ambitious notion, and looking back at Marvel and their fledgling years, they always had a vision of this … although not entirely accurately.”
Downey laughs: “In one teaser I say, ‘I’m putting a team together,’ and in the other one I’m like, ‘What do you mean I can’t join the team?’ But aside from that, it kind of really tracks through.”
I think Marvel did a pretty bang up job of making the continuity work. (And I loved IM2, suck it, haters.)
The end of IM2 when Tony is made a consultant and NOT a team member, happens BEFORE he tells that general at the end of The Hulk that he’s, “putting a team together.” As a high powered consultant, involved in the Avengers Initiative, it would make sense that he’s recruiting. Especially if Tony’s trying (lol) to play nice and get himself a spot on the team.
